Cheese Straws Savoury snacks to enjoy with afternoon drinks.
Ingredients
- 115 g butter or margarine, softened
- 500 ml grated cheddar cheese
- 312 ml all-purpose flour
- 2.5 ml salt
- 2 ml cayenne pepper
Method
- Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees C.
- In a large bowl, beat butter or margarine until light and fluffy.
- Beat in cheese until blended.
- Combine flour, salt and cayenne. Stir into cheese mixture until a dough forms.
- Roll into a 40x15 cm rectangle. Cut into 30 strips of 15 cm long.
- Gently place strips 2.5 cm apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake until lightly browned, 15 - 20 minutes.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Store in an airtight container.
