Cheese Straws Savoury snacks to enjoy with afternoon drinks.

Ingredients

  • 115 g butter or margarine, softened
  • 500 ml grated cheddar cheese
  • 312 ml all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 ml salt
  • 2 ml cayenne pepper

Method

  • Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees C.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter or margarine until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in cheese until blended.
  • Combine flour, salt and cayenne. Stir into cheese mixture until a dough forms.
  • Roll into a 40x15 cm rectangle. Cut into 30 strips of 15 cm long.
  • Gently place strips 2.5 cm apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake until lightly browned, 15 - 20 minutes.
  • Allow to cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Store in an airtight container.
